Every child wants to go to school and feel safe. As educators we are always looking for ways to teach our students strategies they can use if they are confronted by another student who is being mean or acting like a bully toward them. "Monkey Bars" uses alpacas as the characters to teach your students how to stand up to mean students and students who act like a bully by "attacking the problem, not the person". Your students will love Mr. Chockablock, the teacher, Mr. Chico, the school principal, and Mrs. Coco the school counselor. They all assure their students that they will be safe at school and if someone is acting mean or like a bully, they will have the tools to stand up to them. At the end of the book are some fun facts about alpacas, as well as, the real-life pictures of the alpaca characters.

Charles Treft has been an educator in public education for over eighteen years. He is currently an elementary school principal with the Calvert County Public Schools in Maryland. Charles has been a classroom teacher and vice principal at the high school and elementary school levels. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and his community as a deputy sheriff. This is Charles’s second book. The book contains messages Charles talks about each day with his students. Charles and his wife Susan raise alpacas, and in fact, the alpacas in the story live at their farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Charles wants every child to love school and to know strategies they can use if someone is mean or acting like a bully to them.
