The fate of a humble orphan in a closed boarding school for aristocrats. A disturbing process of adjustment. The cult of friendship. Contempt and hospitality. Remorse and forgiveness. Shame and honor. Misunderstandings and feuds. Dreams and superstitions. Visions and nocturnal adventures. If you like Louisa May Alcott, Frances Hodgson Burnett, or John Green, you will love the series of the most famous classic Russian writer for young readers.
Biografía del autor:
Lidiya Charskaya (1875 – 1937), a Russian writer, the works of whom were buried for many decades, used to be extremely popular in the beginning of last century and she was “the queen of the hearts” of young readers. The stories included in this book, The Boarding school, are devoted to the lives of students of the Pavlovsk’ boarding school. The writer herself graduated from that school, and she opens up the secret world of the emotional experiences, thoughts and ideals of these recluses with great love and compassion. Charskaya’s stories, written in beautiful language, foster feelings of self-worth, duty and justice and teach partnership, mercy and kindness. This book is addressed first to young readers, but will be equally interesting to grownups.
