‘Cry Me A River’ expresses the feelings of those who know loneliness, pain and loss. Mary’s tender tears refers to the ‘Miracle of Syracuse’ where Mary wept. Her face shows tenderness, compassion and a longing to bring comfort. This book is a meditation on how Mary reveals God’s compassion and love. Through these meditations we pray that the tears of the suffering, of the forgotten, of the desperate and of the victims of any form of violence (and our own) be wiped away. This was the prayer of Pope John Paul II at the consecration of the Shrine of Our Lady of Tears in 1994.
