Day in and day out, we rise with hope to meet the morning. We go to work, and we spend time with our loved ones. Some days we laugh and some days we cry, but there are other days when nothing overly special happens. Still, as we age, we grow and change. My Story Book, a memoir told in a series of short recollections, offers insight into how a California man’s simple everyday experiences influenced his personal growth.
Colin Edward McGreal recounts subtle life-changing events with quiet grace. Whether it’s witnessing a tragedy outside a fast food restaurant, serving on a jury trial, or a few months spent riding his bike to work, McGreal finds universal truths through his experiences as a father, husband, neighbor, and friend. He delves into his California childhood, and a time when kids flexed their imaginations in backyard forts and Boy Scout troops ran patrols through the woods on endless summer days. McGreal’s All-American life makes for funny, poignant, and insightful reading.
Told in vividly painted vignettes, My Story Book is not only McGreal’s tale, it’s a snapshot of life that will resonate with anyone who wants to find meaning in simple things.
For years, Colin Edward McGreal has been writing short anecdotal stories about his life experiences. His brother published a book, and inspired McGreal to compile his stories into a poignant and thought-provoking memoir. Written in a unique snapshot style, My Story Book will make readers examine the meaning in their own everyday lives. McGreal lives in Carmichael, California, a suburb of Sacramento. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University–Sacramento. He has two children and four grandchildren.
