The Cell Story - Tapa blanda

This is a cartoon book that illustrates the organelles in the cell. Each page contains an organelle and shows what it looks like and what it does. It is written in the style of a children's book. However, the book works well introducing the cell to all ages. There is a lesson plan included in the book that would work for grades 4-12.

Hey there, my name's Jackie and I have been a high school science teacher for fifteen years. I love my job and I love teaching hands on science. I incorporate many labs and projects into my classroom, and I have a special interest in cartooning for science concepts. I was inspired by a former student to use this skill in writing a book about DNA becoming protein, which is a very difficult concept for my students. By teaching through a fun story instead of textbook reading, students are able to make connections to their prior knowledge and gain a true understanding of the processes of transcription and translation.
