Neville Creed is a bastard, with all that means in nineteenth-century England. He kills people who apply that label to him. Jeff Slader lives in the Hudson Valley region of New York State with his wife Ann. A computer specialist during his working years, he began writing when he retired. This is the first novel of this kind he has written. "I thought I would like to try a romantic novel set in the late nineteenth century. I placed the action in India and England, as these were the glory days of the British Empire." He has previously written a novel about the air war in Europe during WWII. He is a regular reader of historical novels. "What makes these novels so interesting to me is the way in which the characters react to the challenges they face."
