While entering the halls of the prestigious Hamilton Academy, she meets reserved bookworm Kyle, Aspiring filmmaker Vera, Valley girl Shawnie, and gets an unexpected reunion from her two childhood friends, Maxine, a southern belle who plans to take over the popularity food chain, and Mona, a reclusive rebel who has dreams of becoming of rock star.

Gwen soon realizes she is no friend of honor society president Bianca Walworth, who doesn't appreciate her longtime boyfriend, Chace, making flirty eyes at Gwen.

Having a new life in the big apple has never been so complicated but in the end...

Manhattan Girls tells the story of five teenaged girls coming to terms with life in Manhattan, New York. Gwen Stevenson and her mom, Susan, a conterversial newspaper writer move to New York When Susan gets a call of a lifetime, having a job at the New York Times after spending years writing the daily newspaper at her hometown of Statesville, North Carolina. During her departure, she leaves behind two best friends whom she misses dearly, the tough and defiant Mona and the charming but superficial Maxine, who comes from a rich family. Between the two, Gwen was more of the shy, awkward one. Now enrolling at the prestegious private school Hamilton Academy, she tries to break from that and at least making her efforts of having new friends. It's not long before she meets Kylie, An intelligent girl who feels that she is unappreciated for her academic accomplishments, and the artsy, ambitious Vera, who is quite comfortable of being the misfit of her school. She also meets Shawnie Jenkins, a fun flirty girl who allegedly has a reputation caused by a said rumor. Shawnie has a turbulent relationship with Blake Kingston, a womanizing party boy who is oblivious to being commited to each other. Unexpectedly, Mona and Maxine showed up under weird circumstances. While Mona and Maxine gets adjusted to Hamilton Academy, Gwen sets off a rocky start with Bianca, a sheltered rich girl with hidden emotions. It all starts with Gwen dating her ex, Chace Arlington, Who is the big man on campus of sorts. But Gwen starts to develop feelings for David Henderson, A reclusive student who is jaded by the atmosphere of the school. She gets caught between the two and is undecisive of making her choice. Through all this, she has a deeper connection to her old and new friends. And gains more understanding from Bianca's point of view. From having setbacks to reaching new goals, Manhattan girls tells the story of five young women seeing what life takes them.
