Kale of Nol lives the quiet life of a farmer with his wife, Nisa, and son, Esra, and he would have it no other way. But their peaceful life is upended suddenly when Esra returns home with a silver flask in his hands. Now they are on the run. The silver flask is a warning, and Kale's family are unwilling messengers. Guided by the stranger Omer, and joined by a small group of friends, they must warn the Hunters, wardens of the world, of the coming doom. They are not safe though. The Wolf-king is hunting for them, seeking to snuff out their voice and usher in the return of Ankor, the Great Shadow. They are the last light in a dying dusk. Should they fail to deliver their message, all the world may fall into shadows.

After reading The Chronicles of Narnia at the age of twelve, Seth Aaron Maus felt an urging to try his own hand at fantasy. Eleven years and two books later, his vision came to life in the Mist of Aarde and the souls which inhabit it. His goal was always to craft a new world for readers to enjoy, and he remains hard at work to fill out his universe, populating it with the mundane and the extraordinary. Currently Seth is working on the second book in The Darkest Heart series, as well as minor works to accompany the world of Aarde, and every Mist about it. When he’s not writing he can be found working at the local bookstore, or else enjoying some online games with his friends. Currently he resides in Traverse City, Michigan looking out over the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay.
