This early work by the celebrated American Quaker pastor, William Byron Forbush, was first published in 1903. Here is a short extract from the author's preface: 'This story of kindness is all true. Some of my readers saw the merry face of Pomiuk when he was in the United States. Many more of them have seen and heard Doctor Grenfell, who is quite as much the hero of the story. I must acknowledge my deep obligations to the articles and the ""Pomiuk Scrap-book"" of ""Mr. Martin of The Congregationalist,"" upon which the entire narrative rests, for my place is simply that of clerk in the matter.
