Lydia is four years old, the youngest of six children, born to poverty-stricken parents. Because both of her parents are ill, Lydia shapes her faith in Christ after her mother’s example. She prays ever day for food, a safe place to live, a warm place to sleep, and shoes for her feet. She is sad because she feels she has let God down with her constant sin and horrible behavior—but she is just a rambunctious four-year-old.
She is a busy little girl, always into something and usually with her brothers involved. But it is only after they put blue die in the baptistery that they understand they were not adding to the spiritual experience of baptism. The genuine sincerity of these precious children is at the heart of Lydia’s story. They are special in God’s eyes, and he showers them with His tender love. He is always watching over them as they mature into adults with remarkable successes in life. He never walks away from them, even though adults often gave up on them.
Telling the story of one little girl’s experiences with faith, Lydia, What Have You Done Now? offers a reminder that with God watching over each of us, we cannot fail.
