The Chechen guerillas, in their desperate fight for independence from Russia, committed extreme, cruel and most inhuman acts: they captured, held hostage, and killed hundreds of people, most of whom were children....

"Terror in Russia" is a detailed account of the events in Moscow theater on October 22, 2002, and in Beslan school on September 1, 2004, when the Chechen terrorists captured peaceful people and held them hostage. Dr. Janna Lelchuk, who was in Moscow at the time of Nord-Ost capture, recounts the events and offers details about the negotiations that took place as well as puts a personal face on the tragedy and considers the events that may have led to the tragedy. A loss of a friend to Nord-Ost and death of many Beslan children inspired the author, an educator and a mother of three, to let the world know that the Chechen problem still exists, and it needs serious and immediate attention. "Terror in Russia" concludes with a consideration of the issues that led from big confrontation and argues that the approach of the Russian government must be modified if the conflict is to be resolved.
