The Unvanquished takes place during the darkest hour and most critical moment of the American Revolution-when Washington's army was most in danger of total collapse, destruction and surrender-the summer and fall of 1776. Howard Fast tells the story through George Washington's own consciousness, and the result is a portrait of the general that is compelling, touching, spirited and bold.
Howard Fast was born in New York City in 1914. An immensely popular novelist, his books have been translated into nearly 100 languages and sold all over the world. He has written more than fifty books, including Freedom Road, The Last Frontier, Citizen Tom Paine, Spartacus, The Hessian, April Morning, The Immigrants, and Second Generation. He has also written plays, screenplays, history and biographies, and newspaper columns. Fast died in 2004.
