Take a long, hard look at the young children in your life—maybe they’re your sons, your daughters. Or maybe they’re the children who run past you at the mall or in the halls at church.
What does it look like to have a heart and life that imitate theirs?
When Jesus tells us to become like a child, what is he asking of us?

Daily, I witness my spiritual betters in my own children.
When the snows come, I see ice crystals falling, slick roads, and rising heatbills. They sit at the window in awe of God’s creativity.
When nighttime falls and the stars shine, I muse about burning balls of hydrogen. They join the dancing of the spheres in celebration of the God who made them.
When our family sits down to eat, I envision a cluttered kitchen and dishes needing to bewashed. They see daily bread delivered by their faithful heavenly Father.
Why would anyone not want to become like a child?
Why wouldn’t we want to learn again how to squeal with delight at simple pleasures?
Why wouldn’t we rest completely in God, trusting Him with our futures?
I think that was precisely Jesus’ point.
If only we would learn how to live that way.
