'Comedy by name, Comedy by nature'
In a world where autobiographies are written by 21 year olds and Paris Hilton is considered a bestselling author, how difficult can it be to write a book? Dave Vitty, aka Radio 1's Comedy Dave, has decided to find out, and having worked his way from the backrooms of BBC radio to the biggest breakfast show on the airwaves, Dave has a story to tell. He's played Glastonbury, he's had his ear licked by Dave Grohl and he's written more 'Carpark Catchphrases' than you can shake a stick at. It's close and it's good.
Dave's first attempt at being a proper writer is a collection of his stories, misadventures, songs, and anecdotes, and pictures from his phone, all linked together (and not a bit tedious), in his own charming style. Less 'Lord of the Rings' and more 'Lord of the Things', there's a lot of Comedy value in Dave's excellent book. 'Lamb Bhuna' to that.
Dave Vitty has one of the most recognisable voices on British radio and can be heard every weekday morning as the self-appointed Director of Comedy on The Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1.
Dave started working with Chris in 1998 doing The Early Breakfast Show between 4 and 7 am. Five years on The Afternoon Show then followed, before they landed the coveted breakfast slot in 2004. Almost eight years on, the show continues to go from strength to strength with Dave being an integral part of its success, both on air and behind the scenes in his role as head writer.
In March 2011, Dave and Chris broke the Guinness World Record for the 'Longest Continuous Radio Show by a Team', after broadcasting their BBC Radio 1 show for 52 hours. The show included dozens of guests (most of whom Dave can't remember) and raised an incredible £2.8 million for Comic Relief.2011 was also the year that Dave competed in Dancing on Ice on ITV1, and even though he finished ninth, he was brilliant and didn't look silly at all. Dave is also the narrator of Coach Trip on Channel 4 and can regularly be heard on BBC 5 Live with Richard Bacon on The Moan In and with Mark 'Chappers' Chapman on Football Express.
