Críticas:
"Respiratory Medicine couldn't be made easier for both the 4th and 3rd year medics.... It is a great revision and or study guide." Leech Y Gelen Magazine, 1999 "The content is as good as ever.. perfect for revision purposes or catch-up reading. A good buy for 2nd or 3rd years." Black Bag, 1999 Commissioned reviews of the 5th edition: "Having read this text I would recommend it to students, junior doctors up to SHO grade and also for inclusion in the hospital library. The content is of high quality. The amount of information packed into a relatively small text is enormous. I was surprised by the quality of this book being better than I expected. Respiratory medicine is very dependent on physiology and radiology. I would highlight both of these in the text and diagrams as they are important in understanding the management of respiratory diseases." (Dr Mark Juniper, SpR, Respiratory Medicine) "I would recommond any nurse working within a specialist area to use the Lecture Notes series. The book is recommended as a core reference for the Respiratory Pathway of the BSc Nusing/Midwifery Practice Programme. Lecture Notes' advantage over its competitors is that it gives concise details of physiology, investigations, the disease process and treatment within one book. The diagrammatic representation of the disease process is a particular asset of the book and a clear advantage over its competitors." (Shirley Clover, Respiratory Lecturer/Practitioner, Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester.) "As the integrated style courses now become the norm, this book will be a valuable tool from day one. I think when this method of teaching (systems) becomes more firmly established, this type of educational resource will be invaluable. The subject content of the book aligns very well covering all the major topics comprehensively. I like the way that practical procedures are explained in detail. One of the great strengths of this book, the tables, diagrams and text boxes really help to clarify the text." Adam Farmer, final year medical student, Royal Free Hospital, London "I think the current text is very good, and more than adequate for the undergraduate. My concern about publishing a new edition does not relate to the content, style, price or any other aspect of the text, more to do with the adequate coverage of this subject in general medical textbooks, which most undergraduates will already own. I have used this text for my general medical attachments and for my revision notes. I have found it very good. Its greatest asset compared to the respiratory chapter in the existing general medical textbooks is that each chapter is devoted to a single topic, say asthma, or pneumonia, and this makes learning much easier." James Dawson, final year medical student, Leicester Published Reviews of the 6th Edition "Another great addition to the lecture notes series- easy to use, educational and altogether excellent really." 5th Year Medical Student Liverpool Medical School Sphincter "The Lecture Notes series is a favourite amonst some medical students for its clear and concise texts - this latest offering is no exception. ...Altogether, a nice introductory or revision book, that's small enough to comfortably fit into your backpack." Medical Student, Guy's, King's, St. Thomas' Medical School GKT Gazette, January 2004 "It is rare to find a book that captures the happy middle ground - but this one does: providing enough scientific explanation to establish an understanding in respiratory medicine whilst limiting its contents to items of definite clinical relevance. In short, this book tells you what you want to know." Oxford Medical School Gazette, vol. 54 (1) Published Reviews of the 5th Edition "The Lecture Notes series is a favourite amongst some medical students for its clear and concise texts- this latest offering is no exception. ..Every chapter is split and organised into shorter sub-headed chunks, making it easier to scan and navigate around the information. ..Altogether, a nice introductory or revision book, that's small enough to comfortably fit into your backpack." GKT Gazette, January 2004 "Whether you are trying to understand respiratory medicine in the second or final year, this is the book for you! ...Another good feature of this book is a fantastic section on chest x-rays. There are lots of brilliant diagrams and x-rays which are accompanied with good explanations. This is very useful for those of us who have been struggling to understand x-rays!" North Wing, Sheffield Medics Magazine, Winter 2004
Reseña del editor:
Aimed at medical students and junior doctors on foundation programmes, this excellent book covers the essentials of respiratory medicine in a concise and memorable fashion. It begins with a thorough review of anatomy and physiology relevant to the understanding of respiratory disease. This is followed by a detailed clinical section covering the approach to the patient, common symptoms and signs of respiratory disease, lung function tests and radiology. The main part of Lecture Notes on Respiratory Medicine covers the disorders of the respiratory system. Each chapter describes the relevant pathophysiology, the clinical approach, and management of specific diseases. The detailed management guidelines and illustrations of practical procedures make it an exceptionally useful ward resource. The book also contains numerous radiological images that are accompanied by actual case histories to illustrate key learning points. This sixth edition brings the book fully up to date to conform with advances and changes in medical practice. There is a new chapter on 'Smoking and smoking cessation' and extensive updates on the treatment of HIV. The text is based on the latest guidelines for each topic.
