Cependant les Nègres, accoutumés pour la plupart à jouir de leur liberté dans leur Patrie se font difficilement au joug de l'es clavage, quelquefois même on le leur rend tout-à-fait insupportable; car il se trouve des maîtres (je le dis en rougissant) qui n'ont pas pour eux non-seulement les égards que la Religion prescrit, mais les attentions que la seule humanité exige. Aussi arrive t - il que plusieurs s'enfuient, ce que nous ap pelons ici aller marron et la chose leur est d'autant plus aisée à Cayenne que le Pays est, pour ainsi dire sans bornes extrême incut montagneux, et boisé de toutes parts.
