In the church of overton-longueville, Huntingdonshire, there is a recumbent figure of a Knight of the Longueville family (who were settled there soon after the Conquest) with a dog at his feet, devouring his bowels. It wohld be worth while to collect instances of this truly sanguinary incident from other localities.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on a particular monument within the church of Llanarmon-in-Yall, the monumental effigy of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn ap Ynyr. The author presents a detailed description of what is left of the effigy as it remains today and gives readers an insight into its probable original appearance through detailed analysis of the remaining carvings. The author sets the carving within the context of similar monuments dedicated to Welsh knights of the period and compares the iconography of the carving to explore the identity and motivations of the sitter. The book presents a detailed insight into one particular medieval Welsh monument and in doing so presents a more complete picture of the period's knights and their monuments.
