Excerpt from Monthly Cyclopedia and Medical Bulletin (Consolidated), 1908, Vol. 1
In the Edinburgh Medical Journal of November, 1886, Dr. Theobald A. Palm published an account of 3 cases in which he allowed air to be sucked into the pleural cavity after aspiration. One case recovered after one tapping, eu other after two, and the third case took an unfavorable course, and in the course of some months the patient died.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history and treatment of pleural effusion, a condition characterized by the buildup of fluid in the space between the lungs and chest wall. The author, a leading physician of his time, challenges conventional medical practices and offers a fresh perspective on this ailment. Through a blend of clinical observations, historical research, and insightful commentary, he deconstructs long-held beliefs about the nature of fever and its connection to the bodyââ â¢s internal processes. The book dives into the complexities of the human bodyââ â¢s response to infection, advocating for a more nuanced understanding of fever as a sign of the bodyââ â¢s struggle against disease rather than the disease itself. He further criticizes the prevailing surgical approaches to treating empyema, a form of pleural effusion involving pus, urging physicians to play a more active role in both prevention and treatment. This book offers a compelling glimpse into the medical landscape of the early 20th century and reveals a physician's dedication to understanding and treating disease with a deep respect for the intricate workings of the human body.
