In another way no less, the unfriendly feeling against the Amer ican Union worked in that direction. The Mexicans were keenly alive to the fact that great differences of opinion between North and South existed here, and that Texas was a bone of contention among us. The following passage, for example, is an editorial utterance from the Cincinnati Gazette, which like many others was sent home by the Mexican minister both in English and in Spanish.
