Excerpt from Wonder Stories of Science
SO cunning And for the five or six year-old lads and lassies there are the sweetest pictures ever made; and so on, all the way from the time Of dolls, up.
Cards, cards: sent from house to house, loading down the mail-bags, distributed in hospitals, going over the seas, down into mines, and Off to lonely cat tle ranches and log-cabin homes; away back to the farthest western town, which in that? Period I spoke of had not even begun to be and to distant colonies where then only savages were - wherever the mail: bag goes, there go they. And that is one of the pleasant things about them, next to their prettiness and cheapness. They can be so conveniently sent, and with no cost but a postage-stamp. NO breakages either, as there might be to a porcelain vase, a carved bracket, a wax doll, or an elaborate toy. The cards are really the most available of all the tokens of good will, at a time when everybody wants to send Some thing to everybody else. And this is one of several reasons why they are so popular.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book speaks to the history, methods, and significance of how Christmas cards came to be. The author observes that the custom originated in Germany but was popularized in England before spreading to other countries, including the United States. The book asserts that the first Christmas cards were religious in nature, often featuring angels announcing the birth of Jesus to shepherds. However, over time, Christmas cards have grown into a more secular tradition, with a wide range of designs and themes available. The author discusses the role that artists and designers have played in the development of Christmas cards, and how the cards have reflected broader cultural trends and values. The book concludes by musing on the enduring popularity of Christmas cards, suggesting that they have become a way for people to express their love and appreciation for one another during the holiday season.
