James continued to govern Ireland, without any interruption from William, till the r3th of Au gull,1 when Schomberg landed at Beltali with an Englilh army of men. To oppofe him, James colleéted his forces amounting to at Drogheda.1 Schomberg who had arrived at Dundalk thought it prudent to advance no farther 'and inllead of reducing Ireland, after having loft one half of his army by ficknefs, he at the end of the campaign was under the ne cefhty of entrenching himfelf againll an enemy, which he had been taught in England to defpife.
