IT is just ten years since I first published the Orchid Grower's Manual, to which the remarks in the preface to the first edition relate. At that time it contained an enumeration of all the species known to me to be good and showy. In the following pages I have added many new and beautiful introductions that have been made to Orchids generally, within the last few years. I may take this opportunity also of saying, that in bringing a Second Edition of this work before the public, it gives me great pleasure to know that the first issue has been the means of promoting and increasing the cultivation of this glorious class of plants, and that I have had ample assurances that some hundreds of. Cultivators have found my efforts useful. Indeed, repeated solicitations from all parts of the country have chiefly induced me to bring out a fresh edition, which I hope will be found even more valuable than the first. I have endeavoured to make it as plain as possible, in order that persons even with limited.
