Excerpt from In Memoriam Henry Warner Slocum, 1826-1894
A bill was prepared by his surviving colleagues of the Gettys burg Commission, providing for the expenditure of twenty-five thousand dollars for placing an equestrian statue of Gen eral Slocum on the Battlefield of Gettysburg. Hon. John Raines, on February 5, 1895, introduced this bill in the State Senate, and it was referred to the Committee on Finance.
