This book provides a unique analysis of deceptive reasoning from ancient Greece providing valuable insight into the arguments of sophists and how to counter them. The author considers the differences between false content within an idea and incorrect logic, defining and categorizing deceptive arguments to help readers distinguish valid forms of reasoning from the invalid. The author then explores the aims and methods of sophists, examining the processes by which they attempt to trick or confuse their adversaries during debates and proposing strategies to counteract their arguments. This detailed examination of the nature of sophism is essential reading for those interested in logic, analytic philosophy, or the history of ideas.
