For many years I have been occupied, with my assistants and pupils, in an exhaustive study of the disorders of metabolism and nutrition. The result of this work has been a number of short essays pub lished in various periodicals, and several longer mono graphs (textbook on the Pathology of Metabolism, Berlin', 1893; Diabetes and Its Treatment, Berlin, Ist edition, 1893; 3rd edition, 1901; Chlorosis in Noth nagel's Handbook of Pathology and Therapy, Vienna, 1887; Obesity, in the same Handbook, Vienna, The wishes of my friends and pupils have induced me to establish a medium for the publication in collected form of the results of our increasing experience in the pathology and therapy of the disorders of metab olism and nutrition. The first volume in this col lection (on the Indications for Reduction Cures), and the second (on the Treatment of Acute Nephri tis and Chronic Atrophic Kidney), have been already issued in German, the publisher being A.' Hirsch wald, Berlin. The other numbers Should appear at intervals of four, to Six months. It has been arranged to have the collection contain not only dissertations from my pen, but also writings by my assistants and pupils - Of course under my control and responsibility.
