The preparation of this little work was suggested to the author by the Surgeon-General. It was hastily written to supply an existing want. Had it been otherwise, more time would have been given to its composition, and perhaps a more complete work would have been the result. It is hoped, however, that it will prove useful to surgeons as well as attendants, and that it will be found a material aid in the laborious duties of the Medical Staff in hospitals and in the field.
