Excerpt from Pleas of the Crown in Matters Criminal Civil: Containing a Large Collection of Modern Precedents
The Editor presents to the Professors of the Law, the translation of a book of Entries of established reputation, which he trusts will be found to be faithful and accurate. In it he has preserved the paging of the original; as well to facilitate collation, as for the fake of uniformity in citation. He has divided the work into two parts, and annexed a new index to each; he has introduced a few notes at the end of some of the Precedents, in addition to those which they have in the original and, wherever be discovered, what appeared to him to be any error or defect, he has been careful to point it out by a marginal note, stating also where necessary, what he conceived to be the proper amendment or addition. He hopes that the great labour bellowed by him upon this work, is some small claim to the favour and protection of his readers. Just censure he ought not, and does not wish to avert: but he truths that the liberal and ingenuous will shield him from undeserved condemnation.
