"I am Miss Badger."

"V'lummy Badger!"

Mr. Ferrette looked beyond Miss Badger at the speaker. Miss Badger explained, without stepping aside, or otherwise discomposing herself, -

"It is my mother."

Mr. Ferrette bowed with an uncertain air, and fluttered the papers in his hand, as he noted his visitors critically out of the corner of his eye.
