Excerpt from The Psalter: A Witness to the Divine Origin of the Bible

Both these forms of error - the denial of the Lord jesus, and the denial of the possibility of divine intervention in the processes of nature agree in rejecting the Scripture as unworthy of trust because it states what is not true. Hence.

Excerpt from The Psalter: A Witness to the Divine Origin of the Bible

This volume consists of a course of lectures delivered before the Theological Seminary and Rutgers College, New Brunswick, N. J., in the months of April and May last. The General Synod of the Reformed Dutch Church having seen fit to appoint the author to be Lecturer, on the Vedder Foundation, at a time when he was out of the country, and had neither expressed nor felt any wish on the subject, he felt constrained to accept the position, notwithstanding the fact that the pecuniary support of the Foundation had totally failed. The general subject of the lectureship is stated by the founder to be, "The present aspects of Modern Infidelity, including its cause and cure." The best "cure" of Infidelity is the study of the sacred volume which it rejects. With a view to promote this, the author selected a theme in the line of his recent studies, and treated it to the best of his ability. He is not aware that the argument here set forth has ever been handled in any separate volume. If, as thus presented, it shall satisfy any wavering minds, or if it shall prompt abler writers to a fuller and more convincing discussion of its varied aspects, he will be abundantly content.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book argues that the Psalms as a whole, when viewed as to their subjects, aims, spirit, and teaching, can only be accounted for on the ground of a divine origin. The author analyzes the spontaneous and spiritual character of the Psalms, deeming them remarkable not only for their antiquity, variety, simplicity, and frequent sublimity, pathos, tenderness, and fire, but also for a peculiar development of thought and feeling which reveals a high level of spiritual maturity. The Psalms give us a deep insight into the more hidden recesses of a holy religion, showing how our common humanity is affected under an experimental application of a true and self-consistent theology. By focusing on this one book of the Old Testament, this book provides a detailed and compelling argument for the authenticity and authority of the entire volume of scriptures, providing a meaningful exploration of religious truth, precepts, and promises, as well as their historical and biographical illustrations.
