Such a history would of course be meaningless, unless it portrayed the scruples and convictions upon which these efforts were based. During the writing of it, however, I found myself so increasingly reluctant to interpret the motives of other people that at length I confined all analysis of motives to my own. As my reactions were in no wise unusual, I can only hope that the autobiographical portrayal of them may prove to be fairly typical and interpretative of many like-minded people who, as the great war progressed, gradually found themselves the protagonists of that most unpopular of all causes - peace in time of war.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a deeply personal and insightful account of the efforts for peace during the First World War, focusing on the experiences of a group of women in the United States who sought to prevent the conflict and later find a path towards lasting peace. The author, a dedicated social worker and activist, meticulously documents the rise of the Womens Peace Party and its involvement in establishing an international network of women working toward peace. Through the lens of her own experiences and observations, she explores the complexities of advocating for peace in a time of war, highlighting the internal struggles and external pressures faced by those who dared to challenge the prevailing narrative of nationalistic fervor. The book delves into the political landscape of the time, tracing the evolution of public opinion and the responses of governmental officials to calls for peace, and the challenges of organizing and carrying out a neutral conference amidst the chaos and fear of war. The authorââ â¢s perspective on the intertwining nature of peace and bread, with the recognition of widespread famine as a consequence of the war, further underscores the book's thematic depth and the authorââ â¢s acute awareness of the human consequences of conflict. This book provides a unique and historically significant record of a pivotal moment in the peace movement, offering valuable insights into the moral dilemmas and practical challenges of advocating for peace in a world consumed by war.
