Excerpt from Outlines of Indian Philosophy: With an Appendix on the Philosophy of the Vedanta in Its Occidental Metaphysics
The first of the two treatises, composing this little volume, appeared in the Indian Antiquary 1902 and is reprinted here with the kind permission of the editor Sir Richard Temple. The appendix "On the Philosophy of the Vedanta" was originally an address delivered before the Bombay Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, the 25 February 1893.
Both treatises complete in some way each other, the first being a very short summary of the history of the Indian philosophy, the second giving a concise idea of that religious and philosophical system, which more than any other is ruling in India even in our days.

This book is a fascinating exploration of the evolution of Indian philosophy, tracing its origins from the ancient hymns of the Rigveda to the complex doctrines of the Upanishads and beyond. The author takes the reader on a journey through time, revealing how the Indian worldview developed, emphasizing the significance of Brahman and Atmanââ âfundamental concepts that have shaped Indian thought for centuries. The book delves into the heart of these ideas, comparing them with the philosophical schools of thought that emerged in the West, revealing striking similarities and differences between Eastern and Western intellectual traditions. In doing so, the book offers valuable insight into the enduring relevance of Indian philosophical thought for our understanding of the world and our place within it.
