Lillian Wald was equally at home working with families in the neighborhood of the Henry Street Settlement or talking with national leaders and American presidents about international peace. As a leader in the Settlement movement, she was influential in the establishment of the Children's Bureau (1912) and in other major reforms affecting the condition of women and children in our country.
