It is to acquaint me therewith that thou enclosest thyself in those of thy blessed Mother, and to persuade me beforehand of the desire thou hast to become our nourishment and very substance. What! 0 my God! Is it not enough for thee to seek human bowels, whilst thou livest among men; thou wilt also dwell in them when thou art glorious in heaven. Is it possible that thou shouldst vouchsafe to remain with me, to enter into my body, and how much more still into the interior of my soul? 0 how true it is, 0 Lord! that thy delights are to be with the children of men !--(Prov. viii. 31.) What findest thou in me to make thee desire so earnestly to be with me? Thou bringest thy riches with thee; what more canst thou find in a poor creature who is nothing but misery and sin, that thou art not content with being alone, but desirest to live with it? Thou art thyself a paradise of infinite delights! What advantage dost thou pretend to find in my indigence? And how can it be, that I should become, as one may say, the paradise of him who is the eternal felicity of the blessed! Why have not I, 0 Lord! a sufficiency of thy light to comprehend thy wonders, and enough of thy love to seek thee without intermission? Ah!
