In an endeavor to meet the wishes of our critics, and also each individual member, the Executive Committee last summer authorized the issue of the following circular: New Jersey State Horticultural Society. Secretary's Office, Montclair, N. J., June 1st, 1888. Dear Sir: The 13th Annual.Report cf the New Jersey State Horticultural Society has been sent you, the receipt of which you will please acknowledge. The next Annual Meeting will be held in Trenton in December next, and we take this early opportunity to apprize you of the time, and appeal to you for material for the programme. Since the organization of the Society this duty has devolved on the Secretary and Executive Committee, and they have endeavored to present at each meeting a programme of varied character, embracing topics of general interest in all branches of horticulture. We now appeal to every member to suggest material for the next Annual Meeting; not only topics for discussion but persons to discuss them. Every member should feel it his duty to contribute something for the general good. The question, therefore, that should appeal to every member is, What can I do to add to the general interests of the Society? We would suggest a united trial by every member of some of the varieties of fruits, flowers and vegetables that are annually appearing, instead of waiting for the general or special committees to report on them. A little work of this kind by all the members would soon determine the value of many of these novelties and be of great benefit to the Society at largeExperiments with various brands of commercial fertilizers, and the results reported...
