IIAvING heard a rumour that some Boers or other white adventurers had established themselves in Sambana's district, I made inquiries respecting the report, and have elicited the following information, which I consider advisable to communicate to you. Mr. informs me that a Boer Sub-Native Commissioner, named Van Oordt, and a Mr. Steenkamp, accompanied by several others, are at present at_ Sambana's chief kraal on Nyawo's Hill, and have erected huts and established 21 Commissioner's ofiice there for the purpose of collecting taxes from the people in that country, and for the hearing of cases..Ir. also informed me that the Boer Commissioner, Joachim Ferreira, had lately visitedisamhana for the purposebof inquiring into a murder case, but my informant (lid not hear the result of the inquiries. I was further informed that tax is levied on I. also had an opportunity of speaking to a native named Nozimpisi, who lives at the Ubombo Magistracy, and who lately returned from beyond the Pongolo River. The substance of this man's information was to the effect that there were many Boers in Sambana's and in the low country beyond the Ubombo hunting big game, and that taxes had been levied on the people for several years past-in the form described by Mr.. the natives in the "form" of money' of however small amount, cattle, goats, sheep, skins, and honey.
