Reseña del editor:
CouRaGeouS Cuentos is a library-based publishing journal and includes the creative writing of students in classes offered by the Department of Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies. At this point, the works published in the journal are by students in the Ethnic Studies 107: Chican@/Latin@ Lives class since they initially envisioned the idea. They wanted to make their stories, their counternarratives, available to their families, their communities, and any other students who could relate to their stories. The scope of the journal may, in future issues, include CouRaGeouS counternarratives by students in other CRGS courses. The journal is published annually with the creative work by students in the spring and fall semesters of each calendar year. The editing of the written works is a collective effort beginning with the students in the class peer-editing each other’s writing and followed by an editing and review process done by the issue editors. The Associate Editor is always an undergraduate student and Teaching Assistant for the class. The Editor in Chief and the Assistant Editors are faculty members in the Department of Critical Race, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Every student in the class has the opportunity to publish their work on a voluntary basis. The students submit three pieces of writing and both the instructor and TA identify the strongest piece that each student may choose to include in the journal. The students, however, have the choice to publish up to two pieces, not including their reflection of their own writing. Includes the following works: Those Hot Summer Days by Karla Amaya; Mis Berrinches: My “Otherness” by Jacqueline Barrera-Pacheco; Remembering the Forgotten by Briana Corona; Sábado by Patricia Cortés; Así Es La Vida by Patricia Cortés; Stolen Innocence by Magdalena Cortez; Past and Future by Magdalena Cortez; Spanish to English by José Manuel Hernández; A Foundation of Labor by José Manuel Hernández; Literacy Relates to Me by Lei Hou; Unprotected by Idette López; The Brother No One Talked About by Tyree Love; My Best Friend and I by Zitlaly Macías; Silent Voice by José Manzo; The Innocence of Being a Girl by Amy Núñez; The Bitter Taste of Ice Cream by Mireya Ortega; ¿Cómo Te Llamas Tú? by Mondserrat Ortiz; La Música Es Vida by Susana Padilla; Saturday Morning by Cynthia Paredes; Revelations of Self by Jonah Platt (#11); ¿Dónde Está Shame? by Jacqueline Ramírez; Shame by Jacqueline Ramírez; Christopher by Cynthia Rojas; The Sauna on the Roof by Javier Rojas; Reflection by Elizabeth Rosales; Con la Música, Te Recuerdo by Catherine Sánchez; Música y mi Hermanito by Luna Uch; Ya No Está en mi Vida by Luna Uch; Turning Soil by Katrina Uribe; In My Dreams... by Mateo Ramirez Yelton; Heart(h) by Monique Yzaguirre; Pantoum One by José Manuel Hernández, Zitlaly Macías, José Manzo, and Catherine Sanchez; Pantoum Two by Briana Corona, Susana Padilla, and Dakota Porter; Pantoum Three by Jonah Platt, Elizabeth Rosales, and Monique Yzaguirre; Pantoum Four by Jacqueline Barrera-Pacheco, Magdalena Cortez, Lei Hou, and Amy Nuñez; Pantoum Five by Idette Lopez, Tyree Love, Luna Uch, and Katrina Uribe; Pantoum Six by Karla Amaya, Arturo Arce, Mondserrat Ortiz, and Cynthia Rojas; Found Poem Uno by Patricia Cortés, Mireya Ortega, Cynthia Paredes, Javier Rojas; Found Poem Dos by Mitchell McGowan and Mateo Ramirez Yelton.
