Repaints what was airbrushed out...how the Irish and Celtic enriched Glasgow...with fact, fiction and fun. --North American Federation of Celtic Supporters Clubs.
The Fenian is an epic story spanning four generations from 1887 in Ireland during The Great Famine, until 1967 in industrial Glasgow, Scotland. Michael Dillon, a young Irish farmer, buries his mother and leaves on a coffin ship with her 'Going to America' gold coins. But, sailors tricked the Irish in those dark times, and put them ashore in Glasgow. There, Michael is attacked by a bigot, his hand brutally stamped so he can't steal jobs. But, the lad can sing. And, as Irish volunteers build Celtic Football Park to raise money for starving children, Michael finds work singing songs from the Old Country. The Fenian is the story of his struggles to survive in Catholic Wee Dublin, right opposite Protestant Wee Belfast, while trying to save money for America. And, when he marries his attacker's sister, he must fight racism and sectarianism too. His only weapons are humour, pride and passion. With hope in his heart, can Michael overcome his struggle with the love of his family, and his second family, Celtic.
