First published in 2004, the Grumman Goose book tells the story of the small twin engined utility seaplane first designed in 1937 for 10-wealthy business men to replace their Loening Air Yachts. The reliable sturdy design soon found its way into RCAF (31), Peruvian AF (5), Portuguese Navy (12), Brazilian AF (10), Argentina (3), Paraguay (3), Sweden (1), Cuba (2), French Navy in Indochina (17), Japanese (JMSDF 4), and the British (52). In US service, the Army was the first service to receive the Goose when they took delivery of 26 OA-9s in 1938. The US Navy also received its first Goose in 1938. 205 would be acquired by the Navy as XJ3F-1/JRF-1/JRF-1A, JRF-4, JRF-5 & JRF-6s. The Marines acquired 3 and the Coast Guard 10 which were supplemented during the war with Navy Geese. Also covered is ski test aircraft, a VSTOL Goose, McKinnon & Volpar Geese, surplus and Catalina/Avalon Airlines Geese. Over 150 b&w photos and 24-illustrations plus model reviews.
Biografía del autor:
Upon graduation from college, Steve Ginter was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Navy and became a pilot. After leaving the Navy he entered into corporate human resources at the management level. Steve Ginter founded Ginter Books, Naval Fighters Series in 1980 while working in district and regional management positions for Thrifty Drugs. In the 1990s the Air Force Legends Series was launched. Between the two series, over 112 books have been published thus far promoting the colorful history of military aircraft in America.
