With each new dawn, a little of Easter morning is waiting to come into our lives. Whether it peeks out of the deep cold of winter, flashes by in the changing colors of autumn, lazies around in the too-hot summer or sprouts forth in the bright, refreshing spring, we need to rise to greet it and to capture it.We need to be absorbed into the Resurrection moment, not only on Easter Sunday, but on all our days in all our decades on earth. I bring these “responses to the Resurrection” to you in hopes that wherever you are on the merry-go-round of human existence, you will feel lifted up and drawn to a broader vision of what it means to feel the surge of newness in this life and the next. The Resurrection (with a capital R) refers to the moment when Jesus the Christ was raised from the tomb.A resurrection can happen almost any time you need it. I hope this book will help to deepen your faith and allow you to borrow on the power and peace of the Resurrected Jesus with gusto and grace.
The First Easter Morning It was business as usual in Jerusalem that first Easter morning. The sun was at its everyday work, awakening the ancient city to be up and at it once again on the first day of the new week. There were chores to attend, fires to warm, wares to hawk in the marketplace, compromises to make. But,,,meanwhile, already on the move on that hillside on the lovely slopes at the foothills of the Mount of Olives, a young woman you and I have come to know by name was racing down a little dusty path with all her might, bounding along as fast as her trembling legs would let her, going toward home to tell the others of her news. Watch her there running, fleeing, bounding down the hillside, and listen one more time to the words you need to hear again. Listen to the shortest, sweetest, finest little Easter sermon ever, "It's true," she's saying as she runs, "He is not dead,,, I saw Him,,, His eyes met mine, And because He lives, so shall I too,,, Jesus Christ our Lord is risen from the dead." Hallelujah, Amen.
