Returning from war service to learn that his wife has betrayed him, he finds - then most tragically loses - new love. All the while, he and his peers re-engaged in a frenzy of creative activity - painting, poetry, printing, sculpture, all endlessly and emotionally debated. ***First published in 1962, the book was withdrawn within weeks after legal action.
