In spring 1997, ten youths aged 9 to 18, armed with cameras, keen eyes, open minds, and a string of questions, set out to capture the landmarks of their personal lives and neighborhoods in Mexico City. The result is a provocative visual commentary on the multiple layers of values, histories, and cultures that make up our modern urban environments. Honest, expressive, real, and unusual, this collection of images prompts the question - what landmarks matter to you? What would you preserve for the future? Picture Mexico City, like its sister projects in Los Angeles, Cape Town, Mumbai, and Paris, is part of a global initiative by the Getty Conservation Institute to create an alliance between the general public and conservation professionals to help protect the world's cultural heritage.
