"I am happy to include in this reprinting of my Confessions the exciting account of the capture of the present record carp by Mr Christopher Yates. My old friend Richard Walker has had to relinquish his crown at last, a lapse of twenty-nine years. Mr Yates has seen bigger carp in Redmire than his fifty-one pounder. So have I. A note on this, the 1979 reprint, states "Clarissa, the record carp caught by Richard Walker, died on May 3rd 1971 at the London Zoo Aquarium, where it had been for over eighteen years.
