Críticas:
"If, as Bruce Shields suggests, one should preach through Romans at least once during a ministry, his book should be one of the essential tools for the task. Shields cuts to the central issues of the epistle, demonstrating a clear grasp of 'Paul's logic, ' Never chatty or light, Shields' career work is a carefully honed and thoughtful guide that honors preachers' serious engagement with Romans. He works with economy and verve, masterfully condensing scholarly discussion and providing an eclectic array of sermons. My short list of resources for preaching Romans has just increased by one."
Reseña del editor:
Written specifically with the busy preacher in mind, Preaching Romans offers a discussion on the central issues of Romans to help preachers to develop sermons that can bring their congregations to understand, appreciate, and commit themselves to the gospel for which Paul gave his life. Shields begins his discussion with Paul's understanding of preaching. His treatment of Paul's letter to the believers in Rome is as if looking through a window at how Paul approached an early Christian community for the purposes of developing a relationship to help advance his missionary journey and of helping Christians to deal with specific issues of how they should live in relation to one another and to the larger community. He looks at the historical setting of the letter and its sermonic form, which Shields refers to as "gospel logic." Shields provides exegetical help for preaching from singular passages of Romans dealing with particular issues, help with texts for a series of issue-related sermons, and for a course of sermons through the book to communicate the whole gospel message as preached and taught by the apostle Paul. He includes sample sermons on seven Romans texts and remarks on the importance of Romans for today. Author Bio: Bruce E. Shields is Russell F. and Marian J. Blowers Professor of Christian Ministries at Emmanuel School of Religion. He is the author of From the Housetops: Preaching in the Early Church and Today from Chalice Press.
