Reseña del editor:
In his "Philosophy of Modern Music", Theodor W. Adorno analyzes what he called "radical music" and discusses in detail the innovative work of Mahler, of Schoenberg and his disciples, and the early compositions of Stravinsky. As in all his writings, Adorno brings a wide array of cultural and social themes to bear on these subjects, so that individual musical works are seen in their broadest political and sociological setting. At the same time, the book remains a study of the works themselves, and as such is a classic study of serious 20th century music. Published for the first time in Germany in 1948, "Philosophy of Modern Music" is a product of Adorno's exile in the United States, where he wrote it while National Socialism fell in his European homeland.
Biografía del autor:
Theodor W. Adorno (1903-69) was the leading philosopher of the Frankfurt School of social philosophers as well as a composer who studied under Alban Berg in Vienna. He also became personally acquainted with Arnold Schoenberg and Anton von Webern.
