Scott Hahn-- author of "Rome Sweet Home" and "Evangelizing Catholics" Showing the convergence and complementarity of exegesis and theology, the contributors to this collection are all scholars and practitioners who address -- and strike a helpful balance between -- a wide range of theoretical issues and practical concerns. Highly recommended, especially for seminary professors. James L. Papandrea-- Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary An important book that could not have come at a more opportune time in the history of our faith and our Church. . . . It debunks several false dichotomies and breaks down the wall that modern and postmodern intellectuals have tried to put up between faith and reason. James Keating-- Institute for Priestly Formation, Creighton University In "Verbum Domini" Pope Benedict XVI pleads with the scholarly world to let the living God emerge from the text of the Bible, and this collection of essays responds to that plea. Every seminary library needs this work. Gregory Tatum, O.P.-- Ecole biblique et archeologique francaise de Jerusalem An extremely useful springboard for discussion. . . . The essays themselves form a kind of conversation on the calamitous divorce of theology from exegesis. The diversity of topics addressed shows how extensive the consequences of Pope Benedict's 2010 Apostolic Exhortation, Verbum Domini, ought to be. " "CatholicCulture.org" (Jeffrey Mirus) Readers of this new collection of essays will commend Fr. Carl and all eleven authors for their luminous effort to refocus Biblical exegesis on what God has chosen to reveal and how he has chosen to reveal it, as well as to refocus Catholic theology on the actual sources of this Revelation. Reseña del editor:
In
Verbum Domini, his 2010 apostolic exhortation, Pope Benedict XVI challenged the church to keep theology firmly rooted in the study of Scripture. The essays collected here respond thoughtfully and concretely to that charge, together demonstrating that exegesis is essential to the theological task and to faith for scholars, students, and the broader Church.
This is the inaugural volume of the Catholic Theological Formation series, published under the auspices of the Monsignor Jerome D. Quinn Institute of Biblical Studies at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity.
