At a wedding in New England an uninvited guest takes out a gun and leaves behind him enough corpses for a feast of funerals. Simultaneously, in France, the same man appears to make an equally unwelcome (and fatal for some) visit to a funeral. Tom Bullen has worked for the itelligence service, but now gets his kicks pushing his mental and physical skills to the limit by indulging in the dangerous sport of caving. Knowing his uncle to have been a victim of the French atrocity Tom's erstwhile superiors in intelligence persuade him to take on the investigation of both incidents. The trail moves from Paris and Louisiana to the seething Moscow underworld where Doomsday is traded for US dollars and the new black market businessmen are more ruthless than their communist forebears.
