"makes for a really gripping and enjoyable read ... the picture of life in today's East End is absorbing and the complexities of the Muslim community are fascinating" - The Mystery People, March 2017; "Fascinating and compelling ... Barbara has managed to give a glimpse into the process of the initial stages of radicalisation and in turn, it enables the reader to reach a better understanding as to why so many youngsters embrace this way of life...Barbara's writing is edgy and the action is very well paced...Bright Shiny Things is fascinating, very well structured and a thoroughly intelligent read." - Book Worm Mummy; "Nadel gives us an unflinching portrait of the social stresses and strains of the Bengali community in and around its Brick Lane heartland. ... This is a gripping read which will entertain and cause nails to bitten to the quick." - Fully Booked; "A gripping story. ... The insight this book provides into the pressures and difficulties of a Muslim family in today's London is brilliant. ... I love this series and would recommend it to any reader in a heartbeat!" - Crime Squad; "Barbara Nadel is an incredible writer. ... Nadel's background as a mental-health services worker and her childhood in London's East End round out Bright Shiny Things. ... Bright Shiny Things is a timely thriller that deals with current issues in the Middle East and the lived experience of Muslims everywhere." - Foreword Reviews; "Unvarnished reality, delivered in a flat, almost journalistic, style for impact, makes this a stunning read" Crime Review
Reseña del editor:
Out of the blue, private investigator and ex-soldier Lee Arnold receives a visit from an old army mate. Abbas al'Barri worked as a translator with him during the Second Iraq War. Now living in Ilford with his family, Abbas is convinced that he's had a message from his estranged son Fayyaad, who was radicalised and was last thought to be fighting for ISIL in Iraq. Does Fayyaad's message indicate a change of heart? Abbas is desperate for Lee's help in establishing some contact with him, a point with which Lee's Muslim assistant Mumtaz might be able to help. From the bright lights of the Western world, to the murky online recruitment techniques of radical Islamism, Lee and Mumtaz have little to guide them in who to trust as they begin a journey into the belly of the beast.
