When a bar crowd turns into a murderous, racist mob, Kevin Shea tries to do the right thing. He fails, and an innocent black lawyer is lynched. The next day, TV pictures show Shea apparently trying to hang the lawyer and Shea suddenly finds himself a hunted, hated man.
John Lescroart was born in Houston, Texas and brought up in Texas, New York and Northern California. On graduating from U.C. Berkeley, he did various jobs before becoming a full-time writer, including working as a singer in Europe, a bar tender in an Irish pub in San Francisco and associate director of the Jewish Homes for the Aging in Los Angeles. After doctors estimated he had two hours to live when he contracted meningitis, John Lescroart decided, on his return to health, to take the risk of writing full-time. Two years after that decision, his novel THE 13th JUROR hit the New York Times bestseller list and stayed on the Publishers Weekly bestseller list for three months.

'Kenin Shea hasn't done much with his life so far. But when the San Francisco bar crowd he finds himself in turns into a murderous, racist mob, he tries to do the right thing. He fails, and Arthur Wade, an innocent black lawyer, is lynched. The next day everyone's TV shows a photograph of Kevin apparently trying to hang Wade. As San Francisco explodes, Shea is suddenly its most hunted, hated man. It falls to Abe Glitsky, the city's black Jewish head of homicide, to lead the hunt - to the death, if necessary. But Glitsky doesn'y like being leant on by anybody, be it the politically ambitious D.A., his attractive assistant, or her mother, California's high-profile black Senator who knew Abe from their college days. Glitsky is determined to prevent another innocent victim being sacrificed, even if it means fighting his way through racial politics, his department's demands - and, the most difficult battle of all, the pull of his own past.' 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
