About the Author:

Kevin Davies is primarily a portrait photographer and has photographed subjects as diverse as Tom Jones, Shane McGowan, Bridgette Fonda, Martin Sheen, members of the Royal family and bands such as U2 and Public Enemy. He has worked for NME, The Face, I-D & Arena. Identified by the late Isabella Blow, Style Editor of Tatler, Philip Treacy has designed hats for Alexander McQueen's white Haute Couture collection at Givenchy in Paris and for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel as well as Valentino, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karen. He was awarded the title of British Accessory Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards five times. He has designed hats for various films including the Harry Potter franchise, and designed Sarah Jessica Parker's hat for the premiere of the film, Sex and the City. Thirty-six of Treacy's hats were worn at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29 April 2011, including the hat worn by Princess Beatrice of York, which was widely covered by the media.

Review:

"Author Kevin Davies offers an intimate peek into Treacy's studio as he concocts his whimsical shapes and takes stock of their effort on the likes of Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga, and Grace Jones." - Diane Soloway for W

"Philip Treacy makes art for the head. Each piece is unique, a sculpture, a fantasy, a statement, an individual. . .a moment suspended in time." - Donna Karen, Fashion Designer

"Over the years, Treacy has created hats to accompany numerous designer collections, including Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld, and Valentino - but one of his longest collaborations has, until now, been little known. His work with Kevin Davies, a talented photographer and longtime friend, is captured for the first time with a new book, Philip Treacy by Kevin Davies." - Isabel Wilkinson for Newsweek/The Daily Beast

"[This] new book made with the photographer, puts the inner workings of Treacy's world in the spotlight." - VOGUE

"The head-topper extraordinaire gets a tip of the cap in the new book. . .featuring over 200 images of the milliner's museum-quality lids, including head-turning snaps of mega-fierce singer and Bond villainess Grace Jones." - InStyle

"Kevin Davies' photographs give viewers an intimate look at the method and mind of Philip Treacy, milliner extraordinaire, who has crafted hats for celebrities, couturiers and royalty alike." - TIME

"A real-life mad hatter's exploits are captured. . .as the British milliner dreams up fanciful creations for everyone from Grace Jones to Kate Middleton." - WSJ Magazine

"Inside the pages are 200 intimate pictures covering everything from Treacy's years at 69 Elizabeth Street to the scene backstage at fashion shows to the dignified funeral held for Treacy's beloved Jack Russell terrier, Mr. Pig." - T: The New York Times Style Magazine blog

"Photographer Kevin Davies has released a behind-the-scenes documentary on daily life in one of the fashion world's most inventive ateliers. During formal visits from royals to fittings with supermodels and other celebrities, the lively mood at a creatively cluttered London workshop is revealed. . .A 20-year collaboration between the photographer and his favorite subject." - Travel + Leisure

"Top fashion designers such as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen have tapped the singular creations of British hatmaker Philip Treacy. . .the author accompanies the almost 200 photographs with anecdotes about this mad hatter's imagination and complex craftsmanship." - Washington Post Magazine

"Notoriously private, the milliner has allowed only a few to watch his creative process unfold. Kevin Davies is one of them, having had sole photographic access to the studio since 1998. Out of his observations comes Philip Treacy by Kevin Davies. . .the book is a work of art in its own right." - The Wall Street Journal

"The beautifully crafted photographs in Philip Treacy by Kevin Davies are born of a close collaboration and friendship between a photographer and his subject. . .The book's commentary, by both Davies and Treacy - with its refreshingly open, conversational tone - help to heighten collaborative atmosphere. . .This book is both charming and disarming, and is, perhaps, at its most revealing in those moments that can only emerge as the result of close friendship and mutual trust." - TIME Lightbox Blog
