Críticas:

'Fans of the Brontes will enjoy this encyclopaedic guide to the life and times of Britain's most famous literary of sisters... Dinsdale's account can only help to ensure the enduring legacy of the sisters, whose work continues to be brought to life on stage and screen, from Haworth to Hollywood.'

'Ann Dinsdale presents a lively picture... For anyone intrigued by the Brontes, yet with only a sketchy knowledge, there could hardly be a better, certainly not a more attractive, primer.'

‘A trip to the West Yorkshire parsonage - now a fabulous museum - is a must. For anyone who can’t get there, The Brontes at Haworth is a good alternative. In words and pictures, the book brings the Haworth story to life. just reading it has made me search out my battered old copy of Wuthering Heights.’

‘ A welcome reissue in paperback of this lavishly illustrated introduction to the Brontes by Ann Disdale, elegantly relates the moving story of the tragic and intensely creative lives led within (and beyond) these four walls.’

A lively, informative, accurate and up-to-date introduction to the family and its extraordinary life... the task of telling what many would see as a too-familiar tale is well accomplished, though in its accuracy and style this book may well prove a hard act to follow

Reseña del editor:

The three Brontë sisters – Anne, Charlotte and Emily – moved to Haworth Parsonage as children in 1820. It was there, on the edge of the dramatic landscape of the Yorkshire Moors, that they produced some of the most memorable, influential and best-loved novels in the English language.

Ann Dinsdale paints a detailed picture of everyday life at Haworth in the 1840s, recounting the Brontë family history and describing the local village and surrounding countryside. She goes on to consider the Brontë s' poetry and novels in the context of their socio-historic background.

This book provides fascinating insight into the lives of the authors of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and will be a must for both literature students and Brontë admirers. It is illustrated with numerous rarely seen images from the Haworth archives, including drawings by Charlotte and Emily, together with evocative pictures by local photographer Simon Warner.
